La
Bota Ranch is that rare master-planned community that placed natural
resources and environment above development at any cost. The diverse
terrain of La Bota Ranch includes river bottom farmland, grassy,
plains, rocky bluffs, riparian habitat, and hilly rises covered
with native foliage. Over 1,000 acres of La Bota Ranch are home
to more than 180 avian species and Laredoans who live in the subdivisions.
There are ponds and stock tanks on the property, as well as riverfront,
running streams, and wet weather creeks, all of which provide the
invaluable resources of water for a lot of species of migratory
birds and year-round species supported by the ranch's ecosystem.
The uniqueness of La Bota's low impact development has allowed humans
and wildlife to co exist side by side. It is a one-of-a-kind site,
easily traversed on foot or by car and accessible from Interstate
35.
Members of the Laredo International Birding Association have documented
over 180 avian species at La Bota, including the white collared
seedeater.
